Year 2 2020-2021

Mr Ritchie

Year 2 Teacher

Welcome to Year 2

Wishing you a warm welcome to Year 2. We are a very welcoming team and are always happy to help. In Year 2 there is Mrs Robinson and myself (Mr Ritchie)

Feel free, any night, to catch me to discuss your child and their work. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Year 2 is a very important year. We are the top infants. We set the example to reception and Year 1. I have to say, I am impressed with how we've started back after our third lockdown and how we've adapted  to longer lessons and challenging work. Expectations are high in Year 2 and they are trying extremely hard to meet them. Well Done Year 2!

Mr Ritchie

Maths in Year 2 is fun, relatable and challenging. As a school we use Maths No Problem. This scheme allows children to really apply themselves in their learning. The scheme is very challenging yet rewarding and the class have responded very well to the level of challenge.

The children have really settled into Year 2 English since returning back from lockdown and are very willing to apply the teaching in their work. We always strive to push children to have a go and play around with their sentence structure and vocabulary. In English this half term, we are looking at letter writing and the story of The Wind in the Willows. Have a look and see what we have been doing lately.

We are very much into the unit of living things and habitats. The children have covered how living things can be classified, what animals and humans need to stay alive, how animals are suited to their habitats and more recently, food chains and what makes a food chain. We've had a big focus on being healthy as part of our topic for the half term.

Homework in year 2 should be short and fun. It will consist of a selection of topic work based on our theme for the half term, spellings and a short maths task. It will be given out on Friday and handed in the following Wednesday.

PE lessons are Tuesday and Wednesday (delivered by an external coach from Preston North End). Please ensure the appropriate kit is in on these days. As the weather becomes nicer during Spring and Summer term we will most probably be outdoors so trainers and outdoor kit may be needed. An email will be sent out confirming when outdoor kit is required.
